Overview

This qualification reflects the role of community service workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management.

Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Entry Requirements:

The entry requirements of this course:

  • Be 18 years of age or over
  • Have satisfactorily completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent.
  • Have English proficiency level equivalent to IELTS 6.0 or complete and pass HIA English Test

Course Duration and Mode of Delivery

The course is delivered over a period of 104 weeks equating to 54 weeks of delivery, 14 weeks work placement, and 36 weeks of holidays.

The mode of delivery is 20 hours per week on a blended delivery of 14 hours face to face in the classroom plus 6 hours online study.

Qualification Requirements

To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 100 hours of work in a regulated care facility in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number at HIA is 280 hours and 180 hours will be applied collectively across relevant units of competency, while 100 hours is required in one specific unit.

Assessment Method

Assessment is competency based. Students are required to complete written and practical tasks, which reflect the requirements of the units of competency and current workplace practices. Assessment is continuous throughout the duration of the course.

Pathways to Further Study / Career Opportunities:

After achieving the CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services, students may choose to undertake other Diploma qualifications or proceed to tertiary education.
